WELCOME TO MIGHTY U5, A GROUNDBREAKING INITIATIVE DESIGNED TO INCREASE PLAYER PARTICIPATION, EMPOWER FAMILIES WITH COACHING SKILLS AND GROW GRASSROOTS RUGBY UNION

Participation in the Mighty U5 program ensures young players develop the skills needed to thrive in their first competitive season of U6's, while parents gain the confidence to coach and assist in future years. Together, we foster a community where children enjoy rugby, parents feel equipped to support their child, and clubs flourish.

How It Works

Once a Rugby Union club has signed up to Mighty U5, they advertise to families in their area. Families do not register with Mighty U5, they sign up to the club as they would for any other age group. The club chooses the best day and time to facilitate the 14 week Mighty U5 program. The session is held once a week on the same day, time and location and lasts up to 60mins.

Unlike generic offerings, our program is specifically designed for 4 and 5 year olds, focusing on age-appropriate drills that engage players and accelerate their learning.

Practical Coaching Skills

Our coaching education modules go beyond standard coaching accreditation, providing practical strategies that enhance coaches’ effectiveness and enjoyment.

Online Delivery

The 14 week program is delivered online and on-demand to make it easy for coaches to view each session in their own time, on their own device.

Built For Clubs, Enjoyed By Families

Whether you’re new to rugby or a lifelong supporter, we teach you how to engage young players and build their skills from the ground up. We also include an isolated skills library to understand how to teach and provide feedback and support player development.

Marketing Support

We provide clubs with a marketing pack, including email templates, digital artwork, and social media content to help clubs promote the Mighty U5 program.

Mighty U5 will also attend local preschools to promote the your club and the program.*

Meet Coach Terry

I have been coaching young kids to play sports, including rugby since 2005. I also run a children’s multisport business called Little Legends so I am very passionate about working with kids. My experience includes:

Designing weekly training sessions for children aged from 2 to 12 and their coaches (including U5-U9 rugby teams during the season).
Designing and facilitating training sessions for up to 280 players and coaches at one time.
Developing a successful U5 Rugby program to attract 4 and 5 year olds to play rugby at their local village club (Mighty U5 Tag Rugby).
Playing semi professional rugby for over 10 years with 100+ Shute Shield games
Being a Dad of two young boys who LOVE rugby

How Mighty U5 Will Help You:

I have consolidated my experience into the program which includes only the information that is required to coach your child.
I have laid out every training session with instructional video's and accompanying documentation that can be watched anywhere so you feel prepared.
I have also outlined how I give instructions and feedback at an appropriate level for U5’s and how to keep the kids engaged.
You will have access to me via my facebook group to answer any questions and/or provide support during the season should you need it.

This is an easy to follow program that will help you to save time and train your team with confidence.

Why I Created Mighty U5:

Mighty U5 creates players who are ready to go, it builds future coaches of Minis rugby and grows grassroots rugby union.

There are lots of 4 and 5 year olds playing in the U6's. At this early age the extra 1 or 2 years of development creates a huge gap in ability (and enjoyment). Mighty U5 was created to allow these younger players to learn all the skills together in a structured way so there are ready to play in the U6's.

As a Dad of two boys and with a business coaching kids sports, I know that drills need to be designed at an appropriate level to keep the kids engaged and to help them develop the right skills. I also understand that it is time consuming coming up with content to fill a training session, we include the families in the learning experience so they understand how to coach in future years but also so they can have fun at home knowing they are teaching the skills the correct way.

Coaches also aren't provided guidance on how to manage behaviour of players which can be challenging! I have been doing this for almost 20 years and have consolidated my tips and tricks and included these in the Coach Education module to help others.

I want to support more people to coach their kids well, and as a result encourage more kids to play and enjoy rugby union.
